Start with the waist
Every belt here lists its range. Buy for the waist you have over work pants, and leave a hole or two to spare for winter layers.
Belt or rig
A bare belt suits a trade that already owns its pouches. A rig comes with pouches and a hammer loop set in place, and the suspension rigs add shoulder straps for loads that drag a belt down.
Leather or padded nylon
Leather belts are 2 to 2-3/4 in wide with a roller buckle. Padded nylon belts are wider at the back and carry D-rings for suspenders.
